Tree Planting at CRGC

Friday, 4 March 2005

As part of CRGC's environmental stewardship program the club has purchased 495 tree seedlings which will be planted on an east-west line about 100 yards north of the trap pads.  The trees are a combination of 195 "super poplars" and 300 TXM poplars.  These are both varieties which grow rapidly:  from 4 to 6 feet per year.  The trees will form the north boundary of the shotfall area, and will help contain the shot in the ground around the trees by blocking the shot from travelling further down range.  This will help the club more effectively mine the shot every few years.  In addition, the trees are readily saleable for pulp, and can be selectively harvested and replaced in a planned growth program for the future as they mature.

If you have the time to help with the tree planting, please call Cliff Hill (503-632-4080, or kb7qiu@yahoo.com) or Dahle Gubele (503-771-5378, or dahle.gubele@comcast.net) to get the latest planting schedule..
