100 Yard Range Gongs

Saturday, 29 June 2002

Two new gongs have been installed on the escarpment behind the berm of the 100 yard range, in approximately the same location as the old gongs.  The gongs are made from 1 inch thick T-1 hardened steel plate.  The left gong is 9 inches in diameter, and the right gong is 12 inches in diameter.   They are suspended from chains connected to three I-beams embedded in the escarpment.

The location of the steel columns which hold up the safety baffles on the 100 yard range obstruct a clear shot at the gongs from some of the shooting positions.  If you wish to shoot at the gongs, you should do so only from positions 1 or 2 at the left end of the 100 yard range. Do not shoot outside the firing positions protected by the safety baffles.

The distance from the forward edge of the number one firing position to the 12 inch gong, as measured by a laser rangefinder, is 142 yards (± 1 yard).
