Work Party #1, 2015

Work party #1 of 2015 was a very well attended activity, even though it fell on the first day of Spring Break.  We also got more work done than we have in many previous work parties.  The day started out as cool and overcast, and gradually improved until some light rain fell around 2:45 PM.  Coffee, doughnuts, lunch (from Ebner's), and beverages were available to participants at 12:15 PM, but it was beverages-only for those who continued to work until mid-afternoon.

The first work party of the year is always a winter clean-up event, with some preparation for the next work party in early May.  When we were planning the work, we were concerned we would have more people than work this year, but the balance was pretty good.  There was some time for conversation, but there was a lot of work done.  The following are the tasks that were done:

• Felled a rotting tree in the parking lot directly south of the clubhouse door, cut up the tree, and ground the stump below the surface.
• Cut and split a full logging truck load of logs, which had been delivered on the previous Thursday.
• Hauled oak from the Elwood Faist homestead, and split it.
• Trimmed dead branches from trees along the parking area up to about 40 feet above ground level and hauled them to the burn pile.
• Deconstructed a shed on the Elwood Faist homestead and brought it to the club to be repurposed as a new range shed (Boy Scouts, an eagle project).
• Dug out the gravel for the new range shed on the east side of the east 50 yard range wall in preparation for pouring a concrete base.
• Moved 3 of the bunker blocks (about 3,600 lbs each) from the east 50 yard range pad to the east side of the 100 yard range in preparation for new work on the 65 yard range.
• Repositioned the steel storage box on the east 50 yard range pad.
• Repositioned and resecured the ground cloth on the trap range.
• Reloaded the traps with more targets.
• Raked wads around traps 1 - 3 (Boy Scouts).
• Added more carpet on the archery range, and sand to the broadhead pit.
• Cleaned the CRGC/CEFI shotguns used for the junior trap program.

Thanks go to member Pete Kosky and Star Rentals for the wood splitter.  It got a workout.  In addition, member Mike Warn brought a high-lift for the tree trimming and moving bunker blocks.  It, too, was invaluable.
