Work Party #1, 2010
Saturday, 27 March 2010
The first work party each year usually has the most members, but this year we had more participation in work party #1 than we have ever had before. The first work party typically repairs winter damage, and gets the club ready for maintenance when the ground is a bit more dry in May. We got a lot done, with help from members who brought some of their own tools and equipment. Lunch after the work party was sandwiches from Fisher's Meats, soda, and adult beverages.
- Removed two trees beside the pavilion to make space for pads for picnic tables.
- Bulldozed the ground south and east of the pavilion in preparation for planting grass.
- Power washed the clubhouse roof.
- Blew leaves from the roof and eaves of the caretaker's house.
- Cleaned the kitchen in the clubhouse, including the two refrigerators.
- Washed windows in the clubhouse.
- Removed the old gate card controller and card reader, and mounted a new power supply in the office.
- Sprayed weed killer in the Alice Faist Memorial Park, and around the ranges.
- Mowed around the clubhouse, park, and trap ranges.
- Moved over 30 yards of gravel along the access road, mailboxes, parking area, and range access road, filling potholes.
- Cleaned trap houses.
- Cleaned and greased the trap machines.
- Raked up wads, and picked up hulls from traps.
- Set up new cables on the 50 yard range, and suspended the initial target boards from them.
- Cleaned up the trash left by members on the 50 yard range.
- Moved shooting benches - left there by inconsiderate members - from downrange on the 50 yard ranges back to the 50 yard line.
- Repaired electrical outlets on the 50 yard range.
Particular thanks go to:
- Jim Coates for bringing a power washer;
- Joe Dula for bringing a tractor with backhoe and front-end loader;
- Bruce Hospers for bringing a Bobcat, a Gravely mower, and an ATV-mounted sprayer;
- Mitch and Louis Magenheimer for the bulldozer and forklift.
