Sight-in Days, 2013

Monday, 23 September 2013

CRGC has just finished its annual assistance to hunters by providing them a place to sight-in their rifles, and some consulting on how to do it, not to mention a fair amount of problem analysis and minor repairs.  As usual the club was open the two weekends before the start of deer season, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM each of the four days.  We had 231 hunters bring in 270 rifles to be sighted in.  The club provided targets, sand bags, chamber flags, a spotter, spotting telescope, and spotter board (and occasionally a bore sighter and tools) to help each shooter.  The numbers were down this year, compared to previous years, but the weather on the last Sunday could only be described as lousy, and this probably was one of the factors in the lower counts.  We also think the fact that deer hunting starts this next weekend has not sunk in yet, so we missed the panic sight-in requests.  If the number of telephone calls to sight-in rifles increases this week, we'll get verification of that possibility.

The following club members helped during the sight-in days.  A new member in 2013 is signified by an asterisk following the member's last name, and the number in parenthesis is the number of days the person worked:  Dwight Bond (1), Tyler Burgett* (1), Rich Chapin (3), Jeff Cohen (3), Lee Frazier (2), John Frost (2), Grant Garner (4), Jason Hall (3), Jerry Hall (1),Chris Johnsen (2), Max Klaetsch (4), Randy Kropf (1),Mike Miller (2), Bob Ray (4),Jim Robertson (4.5), Greg Simon (2), Dale Smelser (2), Shane Stock (2.5), Steve Timberman (4), and Homes Tupper (4).
