Sight-in Days, 2012

Sunday, 23 September 2012

CRGC has just finished its annual assistance to hunters by providing them a place to sight-in their rifles, and some consulting on how to do it, not to mention a fair amount of problem analysis and minor repairs.  As usual the club was open the two weekends before the start of deer season, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM each of the four days.  We had 279 hunters bring in 316 rifles to be sighted in, which ties the previous high count of the number of hunters in 2003.  In 2003, the hunters brought in 299 rifles, 17 fewer than this year.

The club provided targets, sand bags, chamber flags, a spotter, spotting telescope, and spotter board (and occasionally a bore sighter and tools) to help each shooter.  This year we also had three Caldwell "Lead Sled" rifle rests to help shooters who had problems getting a reliable shot group.  It generally takes 10 to 15 minutes to get a rifle sighted-in, depending upon the competence of the shooter and the condition of the rifle, sights, and ammunition.

The following club members helped during the sight-in days.  A new member in 2012 is signified by an asterisk following the member's last name, and the number in parenthesis is the number of days the person worked:  Jack Baker (2), Dwight Bond (1.5), Rick Chapin (2), Jeff Cohen (4), Bill Doak (1), Lee Frazier (1), Grant Garner (4), Doug Howard (0.5), Mel Johnston (1), Max Klaetsch (2), Mike Miller (1), Bob Ray (4), Jim Robertson (4.5), Greg Simon (1), Shane Stock (nonmember) (3), Kolin Thiel (1), Steve Timberman (4), and Homes Tupper (4).
