CRGC has just finished its annual assistance to hunters by providing them a place to sight-in their rifles, and some consulting on how to do it, not to mention a fair amount of problem analysis and minor repairs. As usual the club was open the two weekends before the start of deer season, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM each of the four days. We had 267 hunters bring in 336 rifles to be sighted in. The club provided targets, sand bags, chamber flags, a spotter, spotting telescope, and spotter board (and occasionally a bore sighter and tools) to help each shooter. It generally takes 10 to 15 minutes to get a rifle sighted-in, but in one case it took two trips to the range and about 2.5 hours to fix a broken scope and a munged-up trigger. It is amazing to see how little some hunters know about their guns.
The following club members helped during the sight-in days. A new member in 2011 is signified by an asterisk following the member's last name, and the number in parenthesis is the number of days the person worked: Jack Baker (1), Lyle Berens* (2), Dwight Bond (2), Jeff Campbell* (0.5), Jeff Cohen* (4), John Frost (3), Grant Garner (4), Jason Hall* (4), Jerry Hall* (1.5), Dave Hampton* (2), Randy Kropf (3), Jennifer Kunzman (0.5), Sean Ragain* (0.5), Bob Ray (4.5), Rob Rickard (1), Greg Simon* (2), Gary Strean* (1), Kolin Thiel* (1), Steve Timberman (3), Chuck Tlusty (4.5), Rich Tolvstad* (1), Homes Tupper (4), and Tim Wiggins* (1.5).
