Security and Firearms Classes for Women Only

The Portland Firearms Training Team, which holds the NRA Basic Pistol class at CRGC on the second Saturday of each month, has scheduled two classes for WOMEN ONLY on Sunday, 6 June 2010 at CRGC.  The details are in the following paragraphs.

The first session on 6/6/10 will be the NRA's Refuse To Be A Victim class held in the clubhouse.  The class will help the student develop an overall personal safety strategy to put in place before they need it.  The class starts at 9:00 AM and lasts 3 hours.  The cost of the class is $30.  See below for costs for CRGC members and families.  For more information about the RTBAV class, see the NRA RTBAV site.

The second session will be the NRA's Women On Target class.  This is, essentially, a mini basic pistol class that will start at 1:00 PM in the clubhouse, and will finish around 5:00 PM.  The class covers handgun safety, operations, and shooting, and includes range time under the direct supervision of the instructors and range officers.  The cost of the class is $50, plus the cost of ammunition if the student does not bring their own.  The ammunition is sold at the actual cost paid for it by the PFTT - they don't make a profit on the sale.  Again, for CRGC members and families, see costs below.  For more information about the WOT instructional shooting clinic, see the NRA WOT site.  The WOT class also satisfies the Oregon training requirements for a concealed carry license.

If you are going to attend the WOT shooting clinic, you are encouraged to bring the handgun you intend to use for personal protection, as well as a box (50 rounds) of ammunition for use on the range during the class.  If you do not have a handgun or ammunition, the PFTT has handguns available for student use, and will sell you the ammunition needed for the shooting portion of the class.

Women who are interested in attending either one or both of the classes may register by sending an e-mail to Dave Hampton, or by calling him at 503-231-3761.  If you are a CRGC member, or a member of the CRGC member's family, you'll need to mention that to Dave to get the 50% discount offered to CRGC members.  If you are not yourself the CRGC member, you'll need to tell Dave the name of the CRGC member in whose family you are.
