Turkey Shoots, November 2012

Monday, 10 September 2012

Trap Chairman Chuck McClaugherty has changed the date of the November Turkey Shoot from Saturday, 11/17/2012, to Sunday, 11/25/2012, the Sunday following Thanksgiving.  There were several reasons for doing so - for instance, it was generally a problem, given the hunting seasons, to get people, maintenance, and prizes lined up for the earlier shoot date, and there were also some people who could not come because they were hunting.  The Sunday date also might make it easier to remember the Canby shoot dates, since the Elwood Faist memorial shoot was always scheduled on a Sunday.

Chuck says he will also add a couple of events from the regular trap shoots to augment and give some variation to the trap games that form the principal activities at the turkey shoots.  The chance of winning some money in addition to prizes may attract more shooters.  Right now it looks like the additional event will be a 60 bird backer with a Calcutta.  The bidding on teams will start at 2:00 PM, and the shooting will start immediately afterwards.

Following on from last year, rifle shooters will also be able to shoot for the turkeys, hams, and bacons that are the usual prizes at the trap events.  Participants may use any center-fire rifle, .223 caliber or larger, with any optics to shoot a variety of games:  high score (10 shots), poker (5 or 7 card stud), darts (high score 10 and 15 shot), and single elimination games.  All shooting is done from the unsupported standing position, with no slings allowed.  Just bring your rifles and plenty of ammunition to the 100 yard range to sign up.  Winners can claim their prizes at the cashier’s window at the clubhouse.

The cost of shooting tickets will be $4.00 per game, with 1 prize for every 8 tickets.
