Junior Rifle Class

Tuesday, 23 May 2006

A .22LR target training class will be held at CRGC on the 50 yard ranges on Saturday, 17 June 2006, from 12:30 PM to 4:00 PM.  Students will learn range safety procedures and target shooting in the four basic positions:  offhand (standing), sitting, kneeling, and prone (lying flat), and much more.  Students will also learn the basics for improving their accuracy by learning about sight pictures, breathing control, and trigger control.  Parents are encouraged to attend, and may be asked to assist as safety spotters.  The more eyes, the better, plus you can enjoy an afternoon having a good time with your kids.  This is a great opportunity to get excellent training from an experienced instructor in a sport you can enjoy for a lifetime, and have a great time doing it.

There will be no range or instructional fees, and the Club will provide the ammunition at no charge.  Students should plan on bringing their own rifle, if one is available.  Some target rifles will be available courtesy of CRGC.

The instructor who will teach range etiquette, safety procedures, and the basics of target shooting will be John Thienes.  John is an avid shooter with considerable training and experience to his credit.  John is a basic handgun coach and a deadly force decision coach at the Public Safety Clackamas County (PSCC) range.  His training credits include courses in handgun, shotgun, and rifle from the Firearm Academy Seattle (FAS). He is a graduate of the Lethal Force Institure, and has taken rifle and handgun courses at the Oregon Firearms Academy.  He has also completed the Personal Defense Institute rifle class.

John regularly shares his skills by volunteering as an assistant coach at local gun ranges, assisting in a variety of classes from beginning shooters to the more advanced classes.
